What is a Type 2 mechanical splice?
Type 1 · 1.25 fy
Develops at least 1.25 times the specified yield strength of the bar (1.25 fy).
Minimum with Grade 42 rebar: 52.5 kg/mm².
Tested under ACI 318S-14 (section 25.5.7.1) and NTC-CDMX (section 6.6.1.6).
Installation
Align, slide and crimp.
The bar is not cut, threaded or heated: it keeps its full cross-section and properties.

Why hybrid?
A high-strength steel sleeve with an inner polymer layer. When crimped, the polymer seals the splice and keeps water out.

FAQ
What engineers ask.
Which bar sizes are available?
For #6, #8, #10 and #12 rebar (19.0 to 38.1 mm).
Does the bar need preparation?
No. It is not saw-cut square, threaded or heated: you just align the bars, slide on the coupler and crimp.
What equipment is needed?
The G7K crimping tool: portable, 110 V, with dies for each bar size. It works in vertical or horizontal position.
How is the splice inspected?
Visually: crimping leaves a visible mark on the coupler.
Can it be used in seismic zones?
ACI 318 allows Type 2 mechanical splices at any location, except as noted in Chapter 18. The decision rests with the project's structural engineer.
